The World Record Is Not Football

Before ranking football, an honest disclaimer: the all-time Guinness World Record for the loudest crowd roar belongs to American football, not soccer. At Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City on 29 September 2014, Kansas City Chiefs fans produced 142.2 decibels during a game against the New England Patriots. The record still stands, and no football ground has come close to matching it — the sport's stadiums are smaller, and its roofs are less enclosed.

Football's Own Loudest Crowds

To match Arrowhead's 142.2 dB, a football crowd would need a stadium with a fully enclosed roof and an even bigger crowd. The two candidates most often discussed are Istanbul's giant new venues and a packed Rungrado stadium — but as of now, the football record remains a Turkish one, and the all-sport record remains in Kansas City.
